Show Joint Meet Held To Study Water Supply The board of directors of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce met Monday night with the Cedar Ce-dar City water board to study tentative plans for increasing the culinary water supply for the city, in order that the civic group might be in a position to lend full support to any water development program when it is launched. The water board has been studying study-ing ways and means of increasing increas-ing the present supply of water, but had discussed publicly only minor details of tentative proposals. pro-posals. At the meeting Monday a complete report of possibilities was given the chamber board, after which assurance was given by that group that full support would be given as soon as the water board decides on a definite j program. The chamber board, in meeting earlier, took action on two other civic matters, including recommendations recom-mendations for a new garbage dump site for the city, and opposing op-posing the disposal of El Escalante Escal-ante hotel property for any other use than that which it now serves. The city officials had asked the chamber board for recommendations recom-mendations as to a suitable garbage gar-bage dump site, since it has become be-come imperative that the present dump be abandoned and a new one established. A similar request re-quest was made last summer, after which a study was made along with recommendations. In keeping with this the present board decided to renew the recommendations rec-ommendations made at that time, because a complete study then had convinced the chamber officials of the feasibility and desirability of the recommended site. The site recommended is one north of the city and east of Highway 91, in an area about a mile farther north than the present pres-ent dump. Suggestions have been made at various times that the Escalante Escal-ante hotel building be purchased for various uses, the latest suggestion sug-gestion being that it would make an ideal rest home for aged of the county, and that its purchase for this use would avoid the necessity nec-essity of constructing a new building. The chamber board went on record as opposing the sale of the building for any other use than that for which it is now used. The convenience and service ser-vice provided the community through the present use of the property is most desirable the board members feel, and it should not be diverted to any other use if It can be avoided. |
