Show B AC Broncos Win First Two Games In National Meet, Enter Semi-Finals The Branch Agricultural col- i lege basketball team won its first two games in the National Junior Jun-ior College championship tournament tour-nament in Hutchinson, Kan., on Tuesday and Wednesday, the victories vic-tories guaranteeing the broncos' participation in the entire tournament, tour-nament, and of winning a trophy as at least one of the top Junior college teams in the nation. The two victories in first round competition puts Coach Cleo Pet-ty's Pet-ty's team in the semi-finals Friday Fri-day night and keeps it in the running for the national cham-I cham-I pionship. Defeat in their two remaining re-maining games could not shove the Broncos lower than sixth place in the 16-team meet, Coach Petty says. In the opening round the Broncos Bron-cos took the measure of Grace-land Grace-land Junior college of Lamoni, Iowa, by a score of 81 to 60, and Wednesday night they turned back Gray's Harbor, Wash., by a score of 76 to 69. The Gray's Harbor team was one of the pre tourney favorites for the national title, and gained considerable prestige in first round play by winning by a score of 112 to 90 over Baldwin of Tifton, Ga. The Bronco's victory over Graceland in the first round game was definitely a team victory vic-tory with every man on the squad scoring at least two points. Boyd Adams led the scoring for BAC with 15 points, while Roger Rog-er Olpin and Bob Crane each scored 14 points. Crane had had very little chance to mark himself him-self as a high scorer having played only for short intervals throughout the season. Dayle Perkins and Don Marshall each rang up 10 points In the victory and Neil Christiansen rang up a total of nine. ' In this game the Broncos start- ed slowly and were trailing by three points, 18 to 15 at the end of the first period. They pulled into a 36 to 29 lead by half-time, half-time, and were out in front 54 to 42 when the final quarter opened. In the last 10 minutes of play the Broncos rang up 27 points to 18 for the Iowa team to win by the margin of 81 to 60. Roger Olpin led all scorers in the game against Gray's Harbor Wednesday night, ringing up 11 field goals and five foul pitches for a total of 27 points. Christiansen Chris-tiansen connected from the field eight times and came out of the game with 17 points while Marshall Mar-shall and Adams each had 12 points. The high scorer for the Washington team was Glastilica, who also connected for 11 field goals and garnered a total of 24 points. Urquehart equaled Christiansen's Chris-tiansen's 17 points, also with 8 field goals and a foul shot. As a result of its victory the BAC team goes into the semifinals semi-finals Friday night against Hib-bing, Hib-bing, Minn. The Minnesota team won Its first round game by a score of 95 to 66 over Campbell, Ky. We have been unable to ascertain as-certain the score of Hibbing's second encounter. The BAC-Hibbing game will be played at 7:30 p. m. (Kansas timef Friday, and will be broadcast broad-cast over KSUB by direct wire through the sponsorship of local merchants. The broadcast will be The games in Hutchinson are being played in what Coach Petty Pet-ty describes as the most beautiful beauti-ful sports arena he has ever seen. It has a seating capacity of 7000 and the coach reports that although al-though the gym was not filled to capacity for the first and second round games, the crowds have been large, almost filling the gym for each game. Coach Petty was high in his praise for the way the members of his squad had performed in the national meet, stating that they had been playing excellently excellent-ly and showing remarkablly fine spirit at all times. The first two victories, he said,, were definitely definite-ly the result of all round team play with each man doing his Job well at all times.
