Show Hunters Take 101,874 Deer From Utah Forests During 1951 Hunters in Utah took a total of 101,974 deer of both sexes during dur-ing the 1951 regular season and special hunts, the Utah Fish and Game department reported last week. Of the total, 67,686 animals were bucks and 34,288 were does, the report states, for a percentage of 67 per cent bucks and 33 per cent does. 113,026 hunters took the field in Utah during the hunting season sea-son for what is believed to be an all-time record, with 7771 of the persons holding licenses not hunting. Special hunts drew 8658 hunters with 1192 of the permit holders not hunting. The either sex regular hunt, the first in the history of the state, ended with hunters enjoying enjoy-ing an 83.8 per cent success ratio, ra-tio, or with 83.8 out of every 100 hunters getting their game. Success Suc-cess ratio on the special hunts was 74.5 per cent. The number of nonresident hunters showed a decrease from 6590 in J950 to 5397 in 1951. Harold Har-old Crane, big game supervisor, attributes this decrease in number num-ber of hunters to the increase in the nonresident license fee, which was upped from $30 to $40 last year. Also the small number of special hunts prohibited the visitors vis-itors from getting two deer. |
