Show Redmen Eliminated From Tourney In Second Round Turning in by fai their poorest poor-est performance of the entire season sea-son the Cedar City high school Redmen basketball team was defeated de-feated Thursday night, 41 to 31, by Union high school and was ousted from further competition in the State B school basketball tournament. The Redmen had lost their opening contest "to the Monroe Rams, last year's state champions, cham-pions, by a score of 55 to 45, but were highly favored to take the measure of the "just average" Union team in the second round and remain in the race for consolation con-solation honors. The second round game was not more than two or three minutes min-utes old- before the spectators, particularly supporters from Cedar Ce-dar r City, realized that Coach Alrna Garrett's Redmen were not "up" for this game. However, they expected the Cedar players to snap out of it at any minute and take command of the game. Instead the Uintah county team held the Redmen on even terms throughout the first half, with the score being tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter and 1717 at half-time. In the second half the Redmen offense collapsed completely but Union could only take a narrow lead by the end of the third period, 27 to 26. In the final quarter Union pulled away to score 14 points while the best the Redmen could do was to garner five points. Bad passing, fumbling the ball and failure to control the bank boards contributed most to the downfall of the Cedar team in a game that it should have won easily. Gary Middleton and Lawrence Ashdown played well and it was their scoring that kept the Red-men Red-men in the game until the final period.
