Show Fern Johnson Named IFYE Mumni Director Chairman Fern Johnson of Cedar City was elected to the International Farm Youth Exchange (IFYE) alumni board of directors last week at the fourth annual national IFYE conference held at Michigan State University. One of 12 elected to the board, Miss Johnson received additional honors when the board in-turn elected her chairman of the 1956 national board of directors of IFYE. Miss Johnson was an IFYE delegate del-egate to England-Wales in 1951. Van Eitel of Kirksville, Kan., IFYE to Belgium in 1949, Is vice chairman, and Ruth Carson of Cicera, 111., IFYE to Ireland in 1951, Is secretary and treasurer. Colorado IFYE alumni will be host for the fifth annual conference confer-ence to be held in August, 1956. Since 194S when the IFYE program pro-gram started, some 600 exchanges have been made with the United States and 45 countries around the world. These young people live with farm famUles for five months to learn a way of life by actually living it. The IFYE pro- gram is based on the belief that understanding is the foundation for world peace. Miss Johnson, as chairman of the 1956 board, will preside at the Colorado conference In 1956. Outgoing national chairman, Burton Olson, Wisconsin IFYE to Norway in 1951, states that the national conference is held annually an-nually to find ways of furthering the influence of IFYE, to renew acquaintances and meet new IFYE's, and to better understand ourselves and contribute to mutual mu-tual understanding among people peo-ple of the world. |
