Show EMPHASIS PLACED ON WEIGHT Sifting Committee Appointed To Up Livestock Entry Quality C. L. Eving,.shov manager, for the 15th annual Livestock Live-stock Show, to be held Sept. 8, 9 and 20, announces that more stringent regulations will be put into effect this year as a means of better controlling the quality of stock exhibited. ex-hibited. A special sifting committee has been appointed to handle the new quality regulations.. Emphasis will be placed on the weight of animals exhibited, ex-hibited, Mr. Ewing says. All lambs weighing less than 70 pounds or more than 114 pounds will be sifted, as will hogs weighing less than 180 pounds or more than 2G5 pounds. He points out that hogs weighing 241 to 2C5 pounds will be accepted accept-ed but wiU be dropped one grade. A new weight regulation on cattle has been adopted, but will not become effective until the 1956 show. In that year all cattle cat-tle weighing over 1200 pounds will be sifted. Announcement is made of these regulations, in order that exhibitors may check the weight of their animals before they are shipped to the show, and thus avoid inconvenience. Another regulation designed Unruly Cattle Rule for better handling of the animals ani-mals during the show provides that cattle not halter broken and any wild and unruly animals will be sifted. No nurse animals will be allowed in the show, and nnfittpd lambs will also be elim inated. Judges for the annual show have been announced by Mr. Ewing, Ew-ing, with PhU Shumway of the Brigham Young University to handle the judging of fat steers, breeding beef and fat hogs. Russell Rus-sell Keetch, Extension sheep specialist, will judge the fat lambs; Lee Guymon, Sevier County Coun-ty Agent, the breeding sheep and D. Garner, vocational agricultural agricultur-al instructor at Dixie College, St. George, wil.l judge the dairy cattle. cat-tle. The 1055 show will again be he'd at the Collece of Southern Utah campus, opening Thursday. Sept. 8 and continuing through Saturday, Sept. 10. First Day Judging Judging of all livestock entered including swine, 6heep and cattle cat-tle will take place on the opening open-ing day of the sliow. During the forenoon of the second day, Fri-dav, Fri-dav, Sept. 9. Smith-Hughes and 4-H Club judging contests' will take place. The annual auction sale of the breeding sheep will take p.'ace on the second day, with auctioning to begin promptly at 1 p. m. The annual exhibitors banquet will again be held on Friday evening, eve-ning, with exhibitors to be honored hon-ored at the affair to be held at El Esealante Hotel. Speaker for the affair will be Edwin L. Peterson, Peter-son, executive assistant to Congressman, Con-gressman, Henry Aldous Dixon. Final Day Auction The climax of the entire show, of course, will come on the final day, when all fat stock will be sold. The auction will begin promptly at 10 a. m. and continues contin-ues until every animal exhibited has gone through the ring. Top prices have always been paid for animals exhibited by 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America chapters, with record prices paid for the champions in each division. divis-ion. Every indication points to another year of record prices for the fat stock. Many inquiries about the show have already been received indicating indi-cating that there's the usual interest in-terest in the annual event, and a promise of a record number of top animals to be exhibited again this year. Preparations are well under way for the show, many commutes commu-tes having been at work for several sev-eral weeks, and others now making mak-ing final arrangements for handling han-dling each phase of this great event. |
