Show IRON COUNTY TEACHERS SIGN FOR 55-56 YEAR One hundred teachers have signed their contracts and are ready for the opening of Iron County schools on Tuesday, Sept. 6, Superintendent Ianthus Wright announces. Only two positions In the county coun-ty teaching staff remains unfilled unfill-ed at this" date, and It Is expected expect-ed that these will be filled well In advance of the opening of school. One of the vacancies occurred only this week when Jordan L. Larson, EngJish Instructor In the Cedar City High School, asked to be released In order that he might accept a position in the I Box Elder High School at Brig- i ham City. Superintendent Wright agreed to release Mr. Larson If a 1 replacement can be found, but ! the release has not yet become effective. It Is assumed that Mr. Larson will remain In the Cedar ' City school if a suitable replace- ; ment is not found In time for the j opening of school. Second Vacancy The other vacancy Is also In the Cedar City High School. The position In the science department depart-ment formerly held by Fay Jac-obson, Jac-obson, who resigned to return to ' his hometown, Delta, has not yet been fUled, Mr. Wright says. I In announcing his teaching ; staff Supt. Wright points out that a new dean of girls must be 1 selected for the Cedar City High i School this year, and this will be i r done as soon after school opens as possible. Mrs. Zoe Palmer, who has held the position for the past 15 years, has asked to be released re-leased from this responsibility during the coming year. She, of course, will continue her regular regu-lar classroom responsibllies as In the past. While the teaching staff is practically complete, Superintendent Superinten-dent Wright faces a perplexing housing problem In the Junior High School. A new building program pro-gram was started early this year under which considerable remodeling remod-eling of the junior high building build-ing and a portion of the West Elementary building was undertaken under-taken in connection with the construction con-struction of a new section of the junior high building. Construction Delayed Material shortages has delayed construction and the building will definitely not be completed in time for the opening of school as expected. The new construction construc-tion portion of the contract Is far from done, and much work also remains on the remodeling of the old buildings. It wiU probably prob-ably be Impossible to have the remodeling completed by Sept. 6, although the contractor Is concentrating con-centrating his efforts on this portion por-tion of the Job. The rooms In the elementary building to be diverted divert-ed to Junior high use will probably prob-ably be ready for use when school opens but It is very doubt- ful If the junior high rooms, or at least a portion of them, wUl be' ready by that time. Delay In finishing fin-ishing the rooms will result In a major housing problem at least until the remodeling Is completed. complet-ed.
