TWO KINDS OF MILK DISTRIBUTION ARE SEEKING YOUR BUSINESS - STORES VS. DOORSTEP Utah's Milk Study Committee found that if the store price of milk should go 2c, or more, below the doorstep (home-delivery, for example) price, doorstep distributors would be in danger of losing customers and store sales would increase. Doorstep distributors don't want this. So naturally they prefer a fixed or "pegged" retail price for both store and doorstep delivered milk. TESTIMONY SHOWED THAT A "FIXED" PRICE ON MILK YOU BUY IN STORES MEANS A HIGH PRICE Mr. Stuart Russell, who represents 30 milk producer cooperatives throughout the country - testified to the Committee that where the retail price of milk is "fixed", it has invariably been fixed too high. Consumers who want to buy their milk cash-and-carry from stores should not be prevented from getting the savings sav-ings possible from this kind of distribution. Cash-and-carry customers are entitled to the savings because they help earn them. And they'll get them at Safeway and other retail stores as ong as the price you pay for milk is not "fixed" by law or agreement, Safevay Stores, incorporated |
