Show Late Frosts Damage Washington County Fruit Crops The storms of last week end brought fiost to Utah's Dixie and apparently caused heavy damage to fruit crops, according to word received from Washington County. Coun-ty. Reports indicate that the or-1 or-1 chards In LaVerkln, Hurricane and Leeds were hit hardest by ; the frosts. The apricot orchards were ap- parently damaged most, al-I al-I though peach and early cherry orchards were also effected. The almond crop Is also said to have been heavily damaged. Some growers have estimated the damage dam-age to fruit crops In the county at as high as $500,000. This is the second consecutive year that frost resulting from ' late season storms have cut the Dixie fruit crop. It Is estimated that the 1953 crop was only about . 60 per cent of normal because of . frosts. |
