The Utah Symphony orchestra is scheduling a special "Pops" concert at the Tabernacle, Mar. 20, with a program that will appeal ap-peal to everyone, young and old alike, according to Maestro Maurice Abravanel, conductor. The Utah symphony played its first "pops" concert in history as a feature of the Christmas holiday holi-day season. The event was such a tremendous success that it will be repeated Saturday as the opening event of the annual progress pro-gress fund drive. The program will include such favorites as the Strauss Emporer Waltz, Crawford Gates Interlude from "Promised Valley," Finlan-dia Finlan-dia by Sibelius and Peer Gynt Suite by Grieg and others. Will Start Early The doncert will start one-half hour earlier than usual, 8 p. m., for the benefit of the many children chil-dren who are expected to attend. "It's a wonderful chance to have a wonderful evening with the whole family," reports David S. Romney, managing director tof the symphony. The annual Utah Symphony progress fund drive will open with the concert and an appeal is being made to have all music lovers of the state show their appreciation and backing of this state orchasera by making contributions con-tributions to the symphony progress pro-gress fund. "The orchestra is very essential as a cultural influence in our state. The contributions not only help to support it financially fi-nancially but express the support and the desire of the people to keep the orchestra," Mr. Romney Rom-ney pointed out. Contributions should be sent to the Utah Symphony Sym-phony office, 55 West First South in Salt Lake City. |
