Show Coach Jackson Gets Track, Field Workouts Under Way Coach Glen Jackson, of the Cedar Ce-dar City High School, announced today that workouts for the popular pop-ular spring sport of track and field have gotten under way and preparations are already being be-ing made for the initial meet at St. George on April 3. A number of outstanding trackmen from last year's squad, particularly from the sophomore class of last year, have already reported for training. A number of other aspirants have reported although their ability has not vet been determined. Some cf the returning stars are: Herb Corry, 410; Kenneth Perkins, 880; Richard Hey wood, Roger Haycock, and Elden Webster, Web-ster, sprints; Terry Bolander, mile; I. D. Corry, 8S0; Gale Fife, high hurdles; Ronald Stratton, 410 and Javelin; Hey wood, broad jump; Kenneth Benson, shotput and discus, and Ronald Mclntyre, discus. A number of other hopefuls will be out in the next two weeks in preparation for the Dixie event. Due to weather conditions, however, the Cedar City crew is at a great disadvantage in competing com-peting with the Dixie and Hurricane Hurri-cane squads, which can begin workouts at the first of the year. At the annual invitational meet at St. George, schools from all of the southern Utah area . will be represented and some , teams lrom Nevada will be in-' in-' vited to participate, it is understood. under-stood. However, this year the en-; en-; trants must be class B schools. No class A or larger schools will be invited. Besides the high school division di-vision there will be a junior high division which includes the 10th grade. Coach Jackson will also enter a group of hopefuls in this division at St. George. |
