Show Volunteers still wanted By CHERIE HUBER The Centerville Historical Society Socie-ty meets the first Wednesday evening even-ing of every month except December at Centerville City Hall. Each month a program of historical interest centered around Centerville and its residents is presented. The public is welcome to attend the meetings. At the same time, the Centerville Historical Society is looking for volunteers who have the time and the interest to help preserve Center-vtfle's Center-vtfle's history. A goal of Centerville Historical Society is bringing together people interested in the history of Centerville Center-ville and the surrounding area. Another of the Society's purposes pur-poses is to collect material on Centerville's past. It seeks photographs, journals, letters, diaries and so forth. The Society also collects published books relating to Centerville or written by people from Centerville, manuscripts and other records. The Society also is preserving its own records. Another important goal of the Centerville Historical Society is to develop an oral history program to preserve other information of Centerville's past that would otherwise become unavailable. In addition, the Centerville Historical Society encourages careful research on cultural and historical sites important to the area and promotes the restoration and i maintenance of those sites once I their historical and cultural importance impor-tance is documented. The Society also tries to provide educational opportunities to the people of Centerville. The Society sponsors lectures on Centerville history, prepares slide presentations, presenta-tions, produces self-guided tours of historical sites of Centerville and uses other means to teach and promote pro-mote historical research. |
