Show Baby born in elevator By JUDY JENSEN Editor BOUNTIFUL-'My baby was due on Wednesday, but I didn't expect ex-pect her to arrive like that. ' This is the way Annette Steed of Farm-ington Farm-ington described the surprise appearance ap-pearance of her new baby daughter Coralee. Coralee entered this world last Wednesday on the elevator floor at Lakeview Hospital. "It was just like any other morning," morn-ing," explained Annette as she recounted re-counted the events of the day. She explained that her cat had awakened her at about 5:45 a.m. "She knocked knock-ed a picture over on the dresser so I got up to feed her' said Annette. It was then she realized that it was time to prepare to go to the hospital I had some signs so I told r '' i 2 , & , t Kenneth we weren't going to work, we were going to the hospital," said Annette. Not sensing any real urgency, the couple leisurely prepared to take their two-year-old daughter Cricket to the babysitter early. "Then we headed to Bountiful and hit every red light on the way to the hospital," she explained. The Steeds arrived at Lakeview Hospital at 6:30 a.m. "We parked the car and as we walked across the parking lot, I asked Ken to slow down because I was starting to have some pain," said Annette. She knew her doctor was going to be at the hospital at 7 a.m. for another patient so Annette was not worried about his arrival. The couple got into the elevator with a security guard who was already aboard. "It was our friend Ken Hayes. We were just talking as the elevator went up and just as the elevator doors opened I said to Ken, "The babys coming!' " Just as the doors opened, Nurse Kelly Brock walked by. She heard Annette's scream and quickly rushed rush-ed to assist her. "The nurse was Tiny Coralee Steed made an unexpected appearance in the elevator of Lakeview Hospital on Wednesday. Although the baby was due on that day, her mother, Annette, had hoped to be admitted ad-mitted to the hospital before greeting her new daughter. After the delivery, Annette was helped to a bed, and the newborn was taken to the nursery where the healthy infant was measured at 20 inches and weighed in at 7 lb. 9 ounces. The Steeds left the hospital on Wednesday with a "perfectly normal" nor-mal" little girl to join her sister at home. Annette said, "It was very strange not to have any pains or warning. Next time my doctor tells me the baby is nearly ready, I'm not going home," she laughed. |
