Show Officer Friendly training gets county support i ByJANIS CARTER SALT LAKE CITY-During a training conference for "Officer Friendlies' held at the state capitol, Gov. ft Norman H. Bangerter announced an-nounced . that the Sears-Roebuck Foundation has transferred the national "Officer Friendly" program pro-gram to the Utah Council for Crime Prevention (UCCP). The Sears-Roebuck Foundation developed, implemented and provided pro-vided seed money for the program nationally for 25 years. Bangerter proposed to Sears- Roebwck, "that the UCCP take the lead in assuring that the program continue to be a vital part of crime prevoBtion in Utah as well as nationally." The program was turned over to Utah because it has the best functioning func-tioning program in the nation. There are nearly 100 "Officer Friendlies" statewide that teach elementary school children, grades K-3, about respect for public law enforcement, personal safety and crime prevention topics. Several officers from Davis CouAy were at the training session: Julie Chilson, Davis County Sheriff Department; Don Porter, Boontifui; Paul Child, Centerville; Craig Beckstead, North Salt Lake; Ranee Johnson, Clinton; Deborah Jensen, Sunset. |
