Show Handcart Days' art show great Bountiful Days of '47 art exhibit was a great success. Over 150 works of art were accepted in the exhibit shown in the Five Points Mall. The open theme allowed artists to exhibit their favorite works. The art received covered a wide variety of subjects and techniques. techni-ques. Landscapes and flowers were the most favored. Professional and amateur artists joined in the fun. Fntries were received re-ceived from beginners, the art hobbyist, the very young and the seasoned professional. Some of those that attracted wide interest were: : Layne Forbes' "Reflections", an oil in blue tones; Lloyd Moon's 'Tranquility," an oil that alluded a peaceful serene sense of well being; Kerry D. Huntington's "In Safety's Arms," a bronze depicting depict-ing a fireman carrying a child to safety. : Also Carol Rice's "Roses, White and Mauve" in leather; Harold Hopkinson's "Soup's On" in oil depicting a pioneer child impatient im-patient to taste the "too hot" pioneer soup; James C. Lamph's "Double Arch," a photograph with an unusual deep blue sky; Evelyn Rawling's original design "Tropical" needlework; Winfreid Geisler's "Hard Tracking" in oil. Also Larry W. Christensen's "Stretching," an oil picturing a young lady takine a break from her gardening; Linda Kohler Barnes' "Cup of Gold," a striking waterco-lor waterco-lor of tulips in an abandoned coffee can; Grant Romney Clawson's "Cara Mia" in oil, a superb portrait por-trait in his usual grand style; and Mary Lou Burgoyne's "Grandma's "Grand-ma's Kitchen',' in oil, was also a crowd pleaser. Something interesting and different diffe-rent seemed to take place. The artists were not restricted as to subject or hampered by a theme. The result was not only variety, but it brought out their "love of art." Many of the art works submitted seemed to be the best of what they really like to do. Some real talent and potential talent ta-lent was obvious. The sponsors are looking forward to much growth in the arts for next year's exhibit. Visitors may have seen in this exhibit ex-hibit some of "Tomorrow's Legends." Le-gends." A good piece of original art can be viewed and enjoyed every ev-ery day and never wears out. Most often its joy increaess and it becomes be-comes more valuable as time passes. |
