At special dedicatory ceremonies cere-monies Saturday morning, the course was officially named after its new owner West Bountiful City Golf Course. Mayor Jerry Thompson was joined by city councilmen, new course professional Mike Bicker and other dignitaries in ushering in the opening. Mayor Thompson then officially hit the ceremonial first drive, followed seconds later, I might add, by the course's first official Mulligan. (The Mayor warmed up quickly, however, bagging bag-ging a birdie on number two.) With the new name comes a new attitude about the course, which covers just over 3,000 yards for its nine holes. Grounds superintendent superinten-dent Paul Bergantz has the greens in their best shape ever, on par with the best greens in the area. Bergantz Ber-gantz is excited that the new com-nitment com-nitment to the course means that .nly good things lie ahead in the future. "We'll be able to do some things on the tees and fairways now that have been needed for a long time . I think golfers will be pleasantly surprised sur-prised at how nice this course is, and will become," he stated. West Bountiful City is a relatively relative-ly flat course, but is deceptively difficult with elevated greens and a few well-placed hazards. By design, de-sign, the course brings golfers back by the pro shop and cafe after each three holes. Bicker has also brought with him some unique programs, including "Nitetime Attractions," a monthly month-ly night golf tournament using fluorescent lighted golf balls. The next such tournament is scheduled for Aug. 27 at 9 p.m. New junior golf clinics have begun be-gun (the latest one started today), and private lessons are also available. avail-able. Starting Sept. 1, the driving range will be open for night use.
