Kent Burton, a former resident resi-dent of Bountiful and son of Dr. H.C. and Elaine Burton of Bountiful, Bounti-ful, has been nominated by President Presi-dent Reagan for the post of Assistant Assis-tant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Burton would replace James Curtis Mack II, who stepped down from the post. Since 1984, he has been Director of the Office of Congressional Affairs for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Prior to this, he was a senior legislative legis-lative representative of the American Amer-ican Trucking Associations, Inc., from 1978 to 1982. He has also served as a senior legislative assistant assis-tant for Congressman John H. Rousselot from 1975-77. Burton is a 1970 graduate of Bountiful High School. He received re-ceived a bachelor's degree from Utah State in 1975, and his masters in public administration from Harvard Har-vard University in 1981. He and his wife, the former Winnie May Skid-more Skid-more of Logan, are parents of four children and live in Arlington, Va.
