By JUDY JENSEN Editor BOUNTIFUL Merchants will be displaying their wares on the sidewalks for the 33rd year this weekend. The tradition of "Sidewalk Days" has survived since 1955 when a few of the shop owners got together and initiated the sale. Nick Stolk, who was manager of Bountiful Lumber in 1955, suggested sug-gested to the merchants' association associa-tion that they try to entice customers custom-ers to Bountiful with a sidewalk sale. "I had tried it when I had a hardware hard-ware business and it was successful, success-ful, so when I came to Bountiful Lumber I said, "Wouldn't it be fun to put our things out on the sidewalk?" side-walk?" said Mr. Stolk. He recalled the success of the first sale. "Everybody got into the festive spirit of the day and that night we closed off Main Street and had a big community dance," Mr. Stolk said. Mr. Stolk now owns "The Clothes Link," a clothing store in Antelope Square in Layton. "I've always enjoyed managing a business busi-ness and sidewalk sales have always al-ways been successful for me," he said. Bountiful's Sidewalk Days is the granddaddy of all of the others in the county, according to Lois Pickett, Pick-ett, owner of Servus Drug. Bruce Barton, manager of Barton's Bar-ton's Shoes and president of the Bountiful Main Street Merchants' Association, said this year's sale will be bigger and better than ever.
