Show 72 Years Ago in Davis County August 3, 1916 Primaries and Prohibition The people of Davis County , by a great majority, have voted in favor of prohibition, but by virtue of location loca-tion between the two principal wet cities of the state suffer daily from the liquor nuisance. Our people should bear this fact in mind and demand special legislation for the enforcement of the prohibition law, both as it now stands in Davis County and as it will stand as a statewide measure. There is sufficient suffi-cient law at this time to prohibit drinking in public places and on the local trains within the county but until such a time as a state-wide police force is provided the law will remain a dead letter. 83 Years Ago in Davis County August 4, 1905 LAYTON E.G. By DENNIS HINKAMP Consumer Information Writer Utah State University : Will diet patches work? Maybe, but only if you use them over your mouth, They will also work if while Wearing them you maintain self control, eat a balanced diet, exer- ; cise and consume less calories than I you burn. I If you expect them to work I under any other circumstances dou're probably out of luck. Diet patches apparently got their art from other drugs adminis-j adminis-j tered through patches. One of the j most common is a drug used for motion sickness which is released i from a patch placed behind your j ear. I J According to Dr. Georgia , Lauritzen, nutritionist in the Utah State University College of Family Life, the diet patches supposedly work the same way by releasing an appetite suppressant. However, one Utah distributor of the patches said their product contained no drugs and nothing entered en-tered the blood stream. What it did contain was herbs. When placed on your wrist the patch "sends bioelectronic messages to the brain and thus destroys the appetite." Gee, why didn't I think of that I could just put a piece of tape on my wrist. Nope, you must have the magic drops that go along with the patch. Lauritzen says the directions are to put two drops of the appetite suppressant on the patch each morning. The liquid "contains no drugs, only herbs," the distributor said. Contrary to what the first distributor distri-butor said, a second distributor contacted by the USU Extension Service said that whenever you feel hungry, you rub the patch and it released an appetite suppressant into your bloodstream. The wrist rubbing may have the same self-hypnotic effect as pinching pin-ching your earlobe or snapping a rubber band on your wrist. Both these techniques have been used by diet counselors. If you are curious about the. effectiveness of this product the distributors will of course provide testimonials of spouses, friends and in-laws who have become thin by using the product. As is common with products of this type sold through distributors, the parent company will usually disavow any inaccuracies or con-traditory con-traditory statements by distributors. distribu-tors.
