Show II Mm WAYNE HOLLEBEKE, Jensen fire chief. i 4 v ' A- . - .- ' v THE JENSEN Volunteer Fire Department held a fund raising dance, Sat. Feb. 14 at the Jensen Legion Hall. Approximately $1,193 was raised before the close of the dance. The monies will go toward the construction and equipment for the new Jensen Fire Station. Jensen raises funds for new fire station The American Legion Post of Jensen hosted a fund raising program for the newly organized Jensen Volunteer Fire Department, Saturday evening at the. legion hall in Jensen. Verlin Vincent assistant deputy fire chief, was master of ceremonies. Music was provided by Newell's Harmony Four. Over $1,193 in funds were raised toward the construction Of the new fire station as well as monies to be spent on equipment. Heather Campbell won a Ruger 25.06 caliber rifle as a door prize. There were also two boxes of candy can-dy won during the evening by Ron Snow and Evelyn Slaugh. Evelyn donated the chocolates back to the fire department to be auctioned off. Gary Snow purchased purchas-ed the chocolates for $25 and he also donated the box of candy back to the fire department to be auctioned again. Larry Gurr purchased them for $30. GarjLSnow entertained the filled room with an amusing skit. After his skit, he passed a hat for donations. The fire department came into existence ex-istence April 1, 1980. Since that time they have been using a 2xh ton truck with a 1200 gallon water capacity to fight fires. The vehicle is an all terrain truck. It was donated by the Utah State Forest Service. The state has also donated a fast-response truck which will be arriving in March. The newer truck is equipped with a 250 gallon water capacity and emergency rescue equipment. The Uintah County School District donated enough land for a two bay fire station and equipment. The Uintah County Commissioners have allotted $7,000 to the new department. The monies will be used to buy equipment and cover operating costs. Construction of the fire house is to begin in early summer. The Jensen community will do the building. "I would like to express my appreciation apprecia-tion to the community for their backing and help to fund the fire department," Wayne Hollebeke, Jensen fire chief, began, "We need the cooperation of everyone in the community to make the fire department a success. The department depart-ment is a volunteer community service for the protection of the life and property proper-ty of all Jensen residents. Everybody in the community is a fire fighter," Hollebeke concluded. Assistant fire chief, Verlin Vincent added, "Everyone in the Jensen community would like to thank the Uintah County School board and the county commissioners, who have bent over backwards for our endeavors." Drew Christiansen, Ann Moon, and DeLay Hunt comprise the emergency medical technicians who are on call 24 ' hours a day in the Jensen area, working as volunteers with the fire department. In addition to the EMT's there are 18 active fire fighting volunteers, many with a history of fire fighting. With donation of the property of the Jensen LDS Church, there will be a fund raising dinner sponsored by the Jensen Volunteer Fire Department on the church grounds, March 5. The , public from all communities is extended extend-ed an invitation to the dinner. Home cooked food will be provided by the fire department and the whole Jensen community. com-munity. Monies raised from the dinner will go toward equipment and construction con-struction of the fire station.
