Show U.S. must be more competitive Dear Editor Wallis: In regards to the constant falling of American- goods in comparison to ; foreign imports, something must be done to make our home industries more competitive, or our country is really going to be in trouble, if it isn't already. It is pathetic that the quality of our products has deteriorated to the point it is not longer competitive! U.S. industry has got to shape-up, and make "made in USA." mean something! For the survival of our jobs, and businesses, the buyers have got to start looking at labels when they buy, and help our own industries, or American labor will have to start going to foreign countires to find jobs. The fault, to some extent, is due to the quality and workmanship of American labor. Back years ago, labor prided itself in the quality of their work! They all tried to outdo each other in building a tetter product. But now it is "So what if I don't turn out a good day's work, or product, they can't fire me, my union will see to that!" The day has come when labor and management must work together, and progress together, or they both will be out of business! That is the way foreign labor and management have gotten the tipper hand in business. Together, they make a better product! The old worn out method of going on strike and destroying their employer's property has got to stop! The well-being of the employer insures labor's future, ui' jobs, and management's ability to offer better pay and conditions to them. If they work together, and rebuild the confidence in American products, we ran come out of this mess of too many foreign irriX)rts! Sincerely yours, .1 A MCKNIGHT |
