Seweoi USoivcoh Ofes garner Seven Uintah Utes advanced to the quarterfinals in the 3-A State Wrestling Tournament and six Utes emerged as winners, Thursday at Weber State College in Ogden. The Utes' Brett Brown blanked Region 6-2 champion, Don Jenkins of Springville, 6-0 in the second round. The match was tied at 0-0 after one round, but Brown gained a three-point near fall in the third round for a 3-0 lead. Brown added a reversal and a penalty point in the third round. Uintah's David Gentry scored five unanswered points in the third round to break a 2-2 tie and defeat Region 6-1 champion, Aaron Sherod of Pleasant Grove, 7 to 2. Gentry gained a takedown in the first round a nd Sherod acquired a reversal to tie up the match in the first round. Josh Reynolds, 119 and Jeff Good, 126, pocketed Uintah's third and fourth victories in the quarterfinals. Reynolds toppled Dave Merrill of Bountiful, 8 to 5 and Good downed Ron Jiron, West, Region 5 first place champ, 8 to 4. Reynolds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and a two-point two-point near fall and added reversals in the second and third rounds. Good dropped Jiron, twice for takedowns in the first round and added a reversal and a takedown. The Utes suffered their only loss in the quarterfinals when Frank Atwood was toppled by Gary Foster of Logan, 7 to 2. Uintah pocketed three more triumphs in the quarterfinals when Pat Jenkins, 145, downed Ron Adams, 8 to 3 ; Randy Smuin, 155, blasted Abe Allen, Spanish Fork, 11 to 1 and Brent Hales, 167, thumped Scott Sessions of Bear River, 12 to 6. Jenkins had a 2-1 lead after one round ' due to a takedown and added a neutral in the second round for a 3-1 lead. Jenkins acquired a two-point near fall and a three-point near fall in the third round for an 8-3 win. Smuin knocked Allen to the canvas in the first round for a takedown and gained two three-point near falls for an 8-0 lead after two . rounds. Smuin added a neutral and a takedown in the third round.
