Nemelka had a 1-0 lead after two rounds, but Smuin outscored Nemelka, 6 to 0, in the third round in a neutral, takedown and three-point near fall for a five point victory. Ufles poeSketf eightf otf ten encouraters in "firs round The Uintah Ute wrestlers started off in grand style in the 3-A State Tournament Tour-nament in Ogden as they won eight of their ten matches in the first round. Uintah was in third place at 20 points after the first round. Box Elder was in first place at 27 points and Tooele was in second place at 20,2 points. Uintah's Brett Brown acquired the first victory for the Utes when he blanked Vince Kanagae of South, 11 to 0, in the 98 pound class. Brown dropped Kanagae for a takedown and gained a two-point near fall in the first round for a 4-0 lead. Brown added a reversal, three-point near fall in the second round and a two-point near fall in the third round. David Gentry, 112, pocketed Uintah's second win in a row when he edged Trent Overton of Woods Cross, 6 to 3. Gentry had a 4-2 lead after two rounds due to takedowns and added a reversal in the third round. Josh Reynolds gained win number three for the Utes when he blanked Mark Bryant of Cedar City, 7 to 0, in the 119 pound class. Reynolds decked Bryant in the first round for a takedown and added a neutral, takedown and two-point two-point near fall in the third round. Jeff Good, 126, acquired Uintah's fourth straight win when he decisioned Bill Walton of Timp View, 6 to 2. Good grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first round on a Takedown and added two reversals in the second round. The Utes suffered their first loss when Darrin Bailey, 132, was toppled by Chris Merrill of Bountiful, 10 to 5. Merrill had only a 4-3 lead after one round, but he outscored Bailey, 7 to 1, in the rest of the match. Frank Atwood, 138, returned the Utes to their winning ways with an 8 to 5 . triumph over Richard Hatch of Woods Cross Hatch acquired the takedown in the first round and Atwood nabbed a neutral.
