Show Union Cougars suffer setback to Morgan The Union Cougars dropped their seventh straight Region 9 encounter when they were thumped by the Morgan Trojans in Roosevelt, Thursday Thur-sday by the score of 74 to 51. Union had a 16 to 13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Morgan had a 35-25 advantage ad-vantage after two quarters of action. The score at the end of the third quarter was: Morgan, 47 and Union, 36. Morgan poured in 27 points in the fourth quarter and Union put in 15 points to make the final score: Morgan, 74 and Union, 51. Steve Robb was the top scorer for Union with 17 points on eight field goals and one free throw. Also scoring points for Union were: Rawlings, 9; Frand-sen,9; Frand-sen,9; Kulland,7; White, 4; Hirschi, 3; Ferguson, 2; Dye, 1 and Snow, 1. Union hit 15 out of 31 free throws and fired in 18 field goals. Top scorers for Morgan were Stenberg, 23 and Archuleta, 12. Moran fired in 28 field goals and hit 18 out of 29 free throws. Grantsville upset Lehi, 67 to 65 and Wasatch downed Intermountain, 79 to 67. Top scorers in the games were: Diderickson, Grantsville, 18; Tuckett, Lehi, 29; Talkalai, Intermountain, 21; Miller, Intermountain, 21; Cook, Wasatch, 22 and Berg, Wasatch, 22. Grantsville, Lehi and Wasatch are tied for first place in Region Nine at 5 wins and 2 losses. Intermountain is in fourth place at 4-3 and Morgan is in fifth place at 2-5. Union is in sixth place at 0-7. 0-7. The Cougars will battle Intermountain In-termountain on the road. Friday and will battle Wasatch in an away game on Feb. 27. The Union crew will battle the Longhorns in Altamont, Feb. 28 and will host Lehi, March 6. Union High School suffered its sixth straight loss in Region 9 action when they were defeated by the Grantsville Cowboys in Roosevelt, Feb. 5, 76 to 53. Grantsville jumped out to a 16 to 11 lead at the end of the first quarter and had a 32 to 28 advantage after two quarters Grantsville had a nine point lead of 47 to 3H at the end of the third quarter and won the contest by the score of 76 to 53 as they fired in 29 points in the fourth quarter and Union put in 15 counters. The top scorer for the Cougars was Steve Robb with 15 points on five field goals and five free throws. Also scoring poings for Union were: Sammarrippa. 8; Kulland, 7; Hirschi, 6; Ferguson, 3; Rawlings, 2; Gates, 2; Frandsen, 2; Johnson, 2. Nielsen, 2; Townsend, 2 and Snow, 1. Grantsville's top scorer was Brown with 30 points on 12 field goals and six free throws. |
