"The government is trying to stop illegal il-legal solicitation and canvassing by former for-mer soldiers wearing the uniform," Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Craven said. "The matter, however, how-ever, is one of education rather than of punishment, as far as the ex-soldiers are concerned. Men found guilty of using their uniforms for such soliciting will first be given a chance at a self-respecting job and in case a second infringement occurs oc-curs will be liablo to punishment. "Such work causes tin: soldier to lose 1 h's self-respeft and to drop to the ranks of a begcar, imposing upon the sympathy which the uniform readily arouses.
