Show VACUUM CUP TIRES GAIN 1NP0PULARITY Salt Lake Hardware Company Com-pany Reports Big Increase in Their Use. "Reports from Akron tell of the ever-increasing popularity of Vacuum Cup tires, with a corresponding decrease de-crease in the salo of plain treads. Tho i 1 'tremendous demand for the former, it would seem, is not only duo to non-skid non-skid advantages, but also to the greater great-er wearing qualities of tho non-skid variety, va-riety, in view of additional rubber," i says tho manager of the Salt Lake Hardware company's auto department. "Sales of the Pennsylvania, for example, ex-ample, bear out the foregoing in an impressive way. Whereas the company, about four -ears ago, was selling as many plain treads as its Vacuum Cup, it is said that this type now outsells the plain casings by more than ten to oue. In fact, the Pennsylvania company com-pany is turning out plain treads in only one of its three types of tires. "Formerly it was "the general custom cus-tom to equip 011I3' the rear wheels with the non-skid tires. The rapid growth of the present efficient service station system is credited, however, with demonstrating dem-onstrating the advantages of using non-skid non-skid treads on the front wheels as well as the rear. When a car carries all four non-skids the tire can be changed from one wheel to the other by ser"ici station men, and thereby equalize the wear on them. "It is also pointed out that tlie non-skids non-skids have a decided advantago for light cars. All light cars, when driven at considerable speed, are subject to much swaying. When fitted out with non-skid tires they hold the road much better than when they carry plain treads. "The non-skids are also claimed to be real savers of gasoline. This statement state-ment is based on the better traction which they afford. "Other admirers of Vacuum Cup tires point out the advantages of the extra rubber which is required to build up the cup. This extra rubber, they declare, gives the tire customer just that much additional mileage before the casing is worn down to the fabric. "There isn't any doubt about it the Vacuum Cup tires not only furnish maximum safety from skidding. but they are better wearing. Furthermore, a Vacuum Cup tread is an all-season tread. It is equally adapted to smooth, dry pavements or wet, slippery ones. When it rains you put up your top and curtains, but you don't have to change tires. "Four years ago we sold about as many plain treads as we'did non-skid treads. Today we are selling more than ten times as many Vacuum Cup treads as plain. That is because tho consumer wants them. He knows which is best." |
