Hughes, admitting she will be IS years old January Janu-ary 10- next, gave a dramatic recital, between be-tween sobs and emotion, in the city court this morning, of her relations with Otto Meek, Ogden. The gin admitted she had been brought back to Ogden last night from Monteuo, Nev., turned over to the sheriff, placed in the woman's ward and held until she appeared in court this morning. A continuance con-tinuance to March 15 was taken at the request of the state, in order to compel the mother to come into court and testify regarding the girl's age. The girl's story was told before Judge D. R. Roberts, who, at the request of the county attorney, ordered all spectators specta-tors excluded. She asserted, under direct examination, that Otto Meek paid her $1000 on February 5 last, when she, through her attorney, had threatened to file an action for damages against him. |
