He was both a poet p.nd journalist. His best known work Is "The Light of Asia," a poem giving the life and teachings of Guatama, the highest god of the Buddhists of Japan. He was very fond of Oriental travel, and during one of his vlsts to Japan met a Japanese woman whom he made his third wife. Sir Edwin was born in Gravcsend, England, on June 1. 1S32. His first wife 4- was Katherinc Elizabeth BIddnlph, X daughter of a clergyman. After her 4- death he married Miss Fanny Chan- X ning of Boston. Mass.. also the daugh- ter of a minister. His third wife was Tama Kurokawa Sendal of Japan. |
