Show I MOVING PICTURES CURE FOR INSANITY New Scheme Tried by Superintendent Superintend-ent of Illinois Asylum Meets With Good Results. CHICAGO, April D. Moving pictures as an aid to the cure of insane patients have been tried for the first time at the Dunning asylum. Dr. V IL Podstala, superintendent, declared after the test that the effect produced was beneficial. I The performance on the canvas drew the attention and Interest of everyone of the 400 patients gathered in the entertainment en-tertainment hall. The seemingly realistic realis-tic manner In which figures appeared and disappeared within the rim of light opened a new channel for their thoughts and led them away from the particular delusion which affected their minds. Excitable patients seemed to be quieted quiet-ed and calmed by the pictures Those suffering from chronic melancholia appeared ap-peared to be stimulated and aroused from their constant brooding over Im aginary wrongs and showed nn unusual Interest In what was going on. As a result of the experiment a moving mov-ing picture machine will bo purchased for the asylum and entertainments wlil be given once or twice each week for the benefit of all patients who are not so violent as to need constant restraint. |
