"Speedy JlmnuV' Wade, the crack milcr and hnlf-mllcr, will again do the honors for tho 'Varsity In tho distances. dis-tances. Wado hau mado an excellent record the past two seasons, and belter bel-ter things are looked for this year. Last year Wade was never beaten In a mile race. He met and defeated all of tho best mllo men of tho State, Including In-cluding Jarvls. the Provo star, and afterward af-terward won from the dlslanco men of tho Universities of Colorado und Nevada. Ne-vada. Wado appears to be in flno shape this year nnd his trainer predicts that the half-mller.s of the State will have to do better than 2:03 to beat him. Other candidates for the long-distance events are Clayton, Judd and Llcb-man. Llcb-man. The first two men were on the 'Varsity track team lust year and the latter is a recent arrival from the EaBt who promises much. Euller. Rldeout, Forbes and Park are possibilities for the hurdles. Butler has shown the best form thus far and will probably capture the honors. Carlson, Bennldn and Russell will ropresent the 'Varsity in the weights. Bennlon threw the hammer 120 feet last yeur in practice, but fell down in the meets. He ought to do better this year. Thompson, Hunt and a freshman by the name , of Redd have been 'training for the broad Jump. Each of the above three has done better than 10 feet. Rldeout, Moore. Whitney, Riser and Sanders will fight It out for the dashes. Last year Moore was easily the best man In the State nt 100 yards, as was demonstrated In the Interstate meet. Sanders Is an Easterner who came to the University Inst fall. Russell, Pitt and Redd are the vault-ors. vault-ors. Russell went 10 feet S Inches last season, and vaults In good form this year. Redd and Pitt aro now men. "Val" Rldeout will captain tho track team this year and George Riser will act as manager Coach Holmes has charge of the squad. ' |
