Show HIGH SCHOOLS TO HAVEJTRAGK MEET May ldth Fixed as tho 3ate for tho Contest Pennant and Medals j for tho Winners. Following out tho plan proponed some days ago by the university athletic council, representative of eeveral high schoolu of the State met yesterday and arranged for a track meet, to be held in tbiB city on May 1-tth. The contest will be held on the 'varsity field and will bo participated In by the high schools of Salt Lake, Oeficn and Pork City. Prof. Byron Cumnilnga of the University hao provided has provided a pennant for the winning team, and will also give medals to the winners of the different events. Considerable interest in-terest has already been manifested In the event by the various high schools, and an Interesting meet io anticipated. In reply to a circular letter sent out some time ago, W. 31. Johnston and A. Patterson of Ogden, J. H. Kance of Park City, Prof. Cummings and Manager Man-ager Riser of the University and N. Soronson of the high school, met at the University club yesterday noon as the guests of Prof. George A Eaton. After enjoying lunch at the club, a business meeting was held at which arrangements arrange-ments were made for the meet. It was decided that only the following follow-ing events would be contested. Pole vault, shot put, hammer throw, broad and high Jumps, 50, 100, 220 and 440 yard ruii9 and a half-mile relay. Five points -will be allowed for firsts, three points for seconds and one point for thirds. Two men from each school can be entered in each event. . The Idea of the track meet for high schools is to stimulate Interest In the different branches of athletics among the high school students. It Is the Intention of the promotors to make the meet an annual event. |
