Show "NAY, NAY, NOT ANY BEAUTY SHOW FOR US" Kansas Mothers Besist Idea- of Parading Pa-rading Their Daughters in-Public in-Public . Special to Tho Tribune. . . TOPEKA, Kan., April.' 9. Mrs. Harding, wife of J. T. Harding, a Kansas City attorney, has written a letter as follows to a woman's reading club of this city: "I am sure the commissioners have not given the idea of a beauty show of Kansas girls at the World's fair full consideration. Of course It would be refreshing for visitors to be received in the Kansas building by a company of bright and attractive girls, such as Kansas could send there; but what mother mo-ther wants her innocent and pure-minded pure-minded daughter to be made a show of for the gaze of the vulgar public? "All the world will he at the St. Louis exposition, and our Kansas girls are not for the inspection of all the world. It is all right to have a fine stock show from Kansas, but not a beauty show of our girls. "No, we don't want to advertise Kansas Kan-sas that way, but if a show Is decided upon, let us send all our girls. It would come high, of course, but better that than an Invidious selection of a few." The women's clubs of the State will probably censure the Idea. |
