Private letters received hero from St, Petersburg set forth the difficulties Embassador McCormlck Is encountering, en-countering, owing mainly to tho animosities animosi-ties growing out of the attitude of thc British Press toward Russia. As a menus of counteracting the anti-Amcrlean anti-Amcrlean sentiment the Embassador is pursuing a course similar to that of Embassador Em-bassador Porter during the French antagonism an-tagonism at the time of the Spanish-American Spanish-American war. Gen. Porter's effort overcame over-came much of tho bitterness of the Parisian press and public, and Mr. McCormlck Mc-Cormlck Is odoptlpg similar tactful measures meas-ures to restore the friendly feeling which existed until recently. |
