Show DEATH FOLLOWS STRIKE RIOT IN CHICAGO In a Frco-For-All Battle Ono Is Fatally Fa-tally "Wounded Cause of Trouble. CHICAGO, April 9. Roy Travis, an eighteen-year-old . pressfecder, being assaulted as-saulted by Franklin union pickets, drew his revolver and fatally wounded Michael Mi-chael Boland early today. The latter died while on the way to the county hospital. Travis Is employed by a firm of printers prin-ters In Clinton street and was returning from lunch when nccosted by three pickets. Ho succeeded In getting past two of them, only to bo attacked by Boland, Bo-land, the third man. and the shooting followed. Travis, who shows evidences of a severe beating, was arrested. The strike of Franklin union No 4 of prcssfceders has been marked by ono previous killing and nearly 100 assaults, some of which were marked by serious consequences, the victims being confined con-fined to hospitals for months. Scores of cases of Intimidation were reported to (he police and nearly S0O nrreats followed. fol-lowed. Fifteen Franklin union members were indicted by the December grand Jury and with the ofllcers a like number was held by the January jury. The union, testimony nhowed, spent nearly $10,000 on the strike, and In addition, was twice lined $100d for violating Injunctions restraining re-straining It from picketing shops. Its ofllclals were also fined and sent to jail by Judge Holdom. . This week Judge Kohlsaat in tho Federal courts granted a sweeping Injunction against the organization. |
