Show Greensleeves Magic 'The magic of theatre and the magic of children's laughter are found hand in hand in the Weber State College Theatre children's production of 'Greensleeves Magic'," said director Scott L. Jensen. THE Commedia Players production of "Green sleeve's Magic" plays July 18-23 at 7 p.m. in the Cellar Theatre with matinees on July 21 and 23 at 2 p.m. Steven George cast as Greensleeves said, "Greensleeves is not a matter of learning lines, remembering remember-ing them, and reciting them. It is the telling of the story of Greensleeves 3nd how he teaches a kingdom to sing, laugh and dance." THAT kingdom is being ruled by the evil grand duchess, played by Karen Rebholz. She has outlawed laughter, and the children of the kingdom can no longer remember what it was like to be happy. It isn't until Greensleeves comes and teaches the princess prin-cess Miranda, played by Cathy Bergman, how to laugh, to sing, and to dance that evil is overthrown, and the magical kingdom lives happily ever after. THE KING and queen of the kingdom have been rendered powerless by the evil grand duchess. Wayne Wyss plays the king, a goodhearted man who is powerless to do more than fidget and cowtow to the grand duchess. Lee Ann Lewis plays the queen, a caring mother who loves her daughters and cannot can-not bear to see them unhappy. Kriste Mortenson and Carolyn Briscoe play the princesses Matilde and Mary, respectively. respec-tively. DIRECTOR Jensen called the story a "Legend of reality." Even though Greensleeves 'rides the tail of the wind,' we don't want the children to think of him as a fantasy character. He should be thought of as a real human who is teaching the children of this imaginary kingdom how to be happy. In the defeat of the grand duchess the children will see joy win over evil. Children and adults alike will get a good feeling from seeing the - show." IN THE story the grand duchess chooses the three strongest men of the town to capture Greensleeves so that she might kill him. She promises to reward them by marrying them to the three princesses. Dave Phippen, John Wentland, and Drew Benson playing respectively a farmer, a tailor, and a bashful bash-ful sailor do catch Greensleeves. But Princess Miranda saves his life by pulling a little magic of her own. IN A dream sequence Greensleeves take the three princesses to a magic place where there is only joy. There is song and dance, and the people are happy. When the girls awake they find that the magic place was really their own garden, proving that happiness is only a state of mind. The Commedia Players is r governed by a 12 member board headed by Portia Douglas, a former theater director at Ogden High School. In addition to their summer children's shows the Players tour all year to schools and community groups to bring story theatre to children all over the state, the director said.
