Show Simmons Gains Honor David O. Simmons, of Bountiful is this year's l'.t.3 George C. Marshall Av.ard winner from Boise State University. Uni-versity. CADET Simmons, 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oris Simmons, Sim-mons, Bountiful, is one of 300 Army ROTC cadets nationwide nation-wide to win the prestigious award. Presented annually to the outstanding cadet of Army ROTC detachments at colleges col-leges and universities throughout through-out the United States, this award is the highest honor any Army ROTC cadet can receive. re-ceive. The award reflects great credit upon the Army ROC program at Boise State and the military science instructors who helped me in my military and civilian education. My wife and family also provided the support and motivation needed to succeed in this endeavor," en-deavor," said Simmons, upon receiving congratulations from Army Chief of Staff designate Gen. John A. Wickham Jr. IN ADDITION to attending the award conference in Lexington, Lex-ington, Va., each cadet was presented with an award certificate certi-ficate and an authorized three-volume three-volume biography of Gen. Marshall. Marshall is best remembered re-membered for his leadership as Army Chief of Staff in World - War II and for his sponsorship of the European Recovery Act (Marhsall Plan) while Secretary Secret-ary of State from 1947 to 1949. A 1971 graduate of Bountiful High School, Simmons has also received a Distinguished Military Student Award and an Association of the U.S. Army Award. He has six years of prior enlisted service and has received two awards of the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and an Army Recruiter's Gold Badge. Simmons is a member of the Dean's List. SIMMONS and his wife, Marie, and their three children live in Boise while he attends Boise State University. |
