Show When You Plant Don't Forget Herbs By LUCILLE STRINGHAM When you plant your garden, gar-den, don't forget to save a small place for your herbs. They take very little space to grow and can add so much to the flavor of your foods. You might find room in your flower garden to plant a few of your favorite herbs. Here are some suggestions for use of the herbs: DILL SEED: Dill pickles, cabbage, sauerkraut, breads, green beans, tomatoes, potatoes, pota-toes, lamb, fish. DILL WEED: Milder than dill seed. Use in dips, salad dressings, potato salad, fish, rice, noodles, eggs, chicken, carrots. SAGE: Meat balls, chicken, chowders, herb dressings, tomatoes, omelettes, cheese sauce, stews, meat loaf, pork chops, chicken stuffing, du-plings. du-plings. BASIL: Pizza, cheese spreads, cottage cheese, tomato toma-to juice, fish, carrots, eggs, barbecue sauce, pork, beef, duck, chicken, herb bread. PARSLEY FLAKES: Dips, cheese spreads, garnishes. Italian Ita-lian dressing, potatoes, carrots, car-rots, rice, tomatoes, egg plant, eggs, stews, spaghetti sauce, fish, chicken, dumplings. CHIVES: Stuffed eggs, cottage cot-tage cheese, cream cheese, salads, potatoes, tomato juice, egg dishes. MINT FLAKES: Punch, dessert de-ssert sauces, chocolate cake, lamb, veal, carrots, fruits. OREGANO: Meat balls, dips, tomato juice, lentils, chowders, eggs. tuna, omelettes, omelet-tes, spaghetti sauce, chicken, fish, Italian dressing, croutons. ROSEMARY: Tomato juice, fruit juice, chicken soup, beef broth, seafood, potatoes, carrots, green beans, zucchini, cabbage, lamb stew, barbecue sauce, pizza sauce, corn bread. THYME: Tomato juice, clam chowder, herb dressing, onions, zucchini, lima beans, gravies, spaghetti sauce, barbecue bar-becue sauce, shrimp, chicken, fish, turkey. |
