Show Therese Nelson Honored Therese A. Nelson, of 531 S. 400 E., Bountiful, was twice honored recently winning a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship Scholar-ship and the Weber State College Col-lege Cortez Honors Competition. Competi-tion. THE FULERIGHT Scholarship Scholar-ship w ill enable her to study at the University of Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland. Her husband, hus-band, Daniel, was awarded a National Science Foundation Scholarship and arrangements have been made for him to do directed readings while they are in Finland. The Fulbright Scholarship w as created by an act of congress con-gress to increase cultural understanding and promote scholarship between the United Un-ited States and other countries. coun-tries. MRS. NELSON stated that the competition is very stiff for the scholarship and that a 3.7 grade point average is the minimum mini-mum acceptable to be considered. consi-dered. Another requirement of the Fulbright scholar is that the applicant ap-plicant speak the language of the desired country. Mrs. Nelson Nel-son speaks and writes Finnish fluently. "APRIL 14th was a very exciting ex-citing day for us," said Mrs. Nelson. In addition to being notified of the Fulbright honor, she was also one of three students stu-dents presented the "John J. Cortez Award" for excellence in scholarship at WSC. She won the regional "American College Theatre Festival Critics Award" contest con-test and was recognized for her work as arts editor of the Weber We-ber State student newspaper. "Signpost." "TO WIN the Critics Award, the selection process was very complicated." said Mrs. Nelson. She explained that it involved doing play reviews re-views in competition at Weber State. Brigham Young University, Univer-sity, and eventually winning the "Critics Award" at Cour d'Alene. Ida. Her winning review re-view has been entered in a national na-tional contest at the Kennedy Center. Washington D.C. The Nelsons hope to travel through the USSR.
