Fiesta Skate is an annual amateur figure skating competition hosted by The Skating Club of Phoenix and sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association. Associa-tion. IN THIS year's meet, appro- Winners of the recent Fiesta Skating Championships in Phoenix, Ariz., were these representatives of the Utah Figure Skating Club. The 18 Utahns are all members of the Utah Figure Skating Club of Bountiful. Results scored by the Utah competitors were as follows: PRELIMINARY Ladies -Group 1: Bethany Yeates, Bountiful, 2nd. Being in the top three of her group qualified Bethany for the final round, where she again placed second. Preliminary Men: Clay Sniteman, Farmington, 2nd. Jason Rowley, West Valley City, 4th. (One group only.) SUB-JUVENILE Ladies -Group 1: Heather Sniteman, Farmington, 2nd; ninth in the final. Group 3: Jill Rowley, West Valley City, 4th. Juvenile Men: Daren Miller, Riverdale, 2nd. INTERMEDIATE Ladies -Group 1: Christine Adams, Bountiful, 1st. Group 2: Nicole Garrett, Bountiful, 1st; Kir-sten Kir-sten Novak, Layton, 6th; Carol Ann Richardson, Salt Lake City, 8th. Group 3: Lisa Herzog, Salt Lake City, 1st; Roxanne Rees, Centerville, 3rd. Group 4: Barb Howard, Bountiful, 2nd. Group winners were advanced adv-anced to the finals, where out of 12 finalists in the division, five were from the Utah club -and skating in competition with each other. Finalist results re-sults were Nicole, 2nd; Christine, Christ-ine, 4th; Lisa, 8th; Roxanne, 10th; Barb, 11th. Barb also competed in solo dance (the only one of the Utah skaters to do so) and placed fifth in the Fiesta Tango. NOVICE Ladies - Group 1; Kenna Bailey, Centerville, 4th; Holly Cook, Bountiful, 3rd; Kimberly Peck, Bountiful, Bounti-ful, 5th. Group 2: Jana Blackburn, Black-burn, Bountiful, 7th; Virginia Hugoe, West Bountiful, 8th. Holly's third place advanced her to the finals, where she again placed third. Junior Ladies: Merrilee Rowland, Bountiful, 4th in figures, fi-gures, 3rd in short program, 3rd overall. (One group only.) Ms. Rowland recently advanced adv-anced into the Junior division and was the highest rated of the Utah skaters. TWO OF the Utah participants partici-pants also received additional recognition for artistic performance per-formance in freestyle skating: Christine was one of three nominees for the Cheryl Wynn Memorial Trophy Award, reserved re-served for preliminary through intermediate skaters, with the winner's name to be engraved on the trophy and the trophy to remain in permanent display in Phoenix. Holly was one of three nominees for the Tower Plaza Trophy Award, a similarhonor but reserved for competitors in the novice through senior divisions. |
