EISHEL, One of tlie most important highways of the entire west is the Salt Lake-Yellowstone Lake-Yellowstone highway, leading north through Utah and eastern Idaho, through what is known as the Upper Snake River valley. From a tourist point of view, this is one of the most essential links of travel. From a local viewpoint this road is next to a railroad rail-road iu importance. Tho records of Yellowstone park show that nfore cars entered the park last 3'ear over this route than by any other entrance. During Dur-ing the present season the travel will double that of last year. It is the Salt Lake-Yellowstone highway high-way that shows more improvement than any other western auto route. From Salt Lake to Ashton the roads are good in spite of the heavy travel and dry summer, yet thousands of dollars are being spent for further improvement. Within a year the highway In Utah should be completely hard-surfaced and greatly improved in Idaho. The strip of road between Ashton and the park will also be put in good condition, so there should to no complaints as to road conditions between Salt Lake and the park. This road has been logged and mapped by The Tribune car a dozen times in the past ten or twelve years. The latest system of strip map's has just been completed by The Tribune-Overland Tribune-Overland car, fitted with Portage tires and using Vico lubricants. A few changes will be found in these strip maps over those made a year ago, but it is the work of The Tribune-Overland car to keep tho public constantly posted on these road changes. Strip maps this week appear from Preston to Downey; Downev to Poca-tello; Poca-tello; Pocatello. to Idaho Falls, and Idaho Falls to St. Anthony. These, with the maps published a week ago, takes the tourist through to the park. |
