He ia receiving encouragement from about 2,000.000 . doughboys, many of whom v atched him engage in ring contests in VYance. Martin is only 21 years old and w'f ighs 200 pounds. He is a native of Akron. Ohio. He started boxing soon after he joined tho army aud in the service he was In i wont y -eight ring battles and did not meet with a solitary setback. He fought his way through a series of elimination bouts, and seven of the contests resulted in him knocking out his opponent. Among his victims -are the champions of the allied nations, and he won the championship champion-ship of the interallied tournament by defeat de-feat ing Jim Coup hi 11 of Australia. For his many victories in the A. E. F. the young boxer received only the cheers of 1iis many admirers. Now he is going t ( nt er the ring and take away money for his activities. Martin is confident that tie will make as rapid strides as a professional as he did in the army. His rmbition is to win the heavyweight championship of the world. |
