Show 'IF PROSPECTS SPPFjp&ilT Promising Material at University Uni-versity for Crack Football Foot-ball Team. Trospects of a championship football team at the University of Utah this year appear quite bright Four letter men who performed in 1017 for the Crimson aro booked to return, and, with a number num-ber of former high school stars who entered en-tered the university last year. Coach Fitzpatrick has an abundance of experienced experi-enced material with which to work. The four wearers of the "U" who will in all probability don the moleskins for the varsity this year aro Maurice (Tinv) Roche, Harold (RisM Kay, Blondv Thor-u Thor-u m and Ed Huwells, all stars " of the first class. Roche is a lineman with several vears' experience. He can work equally well in either the guard or tackle position, and the line this year will bo molded around this veteran. Roche during the I'.'1." season made a name for himself, showing show-ing class especially on the offense. Kay, Thorn m and Howells aro all hack-field hack-field men. Kay and Howel'.s have played half, while Thorum's posit ion is at l ull. A number of promising men are out for quarter, which will complete a backfioid hard to beat in the west. Foremost anions' the new men is !I ii Romney, formerly of the Bot hi--,h. Romney can perform at either quaner or half. While, playing on the Kant high eleven, Romney was picked for nil-state quarter. He was the winner of the F. C. Richmond medal in his junior year. Ralph Stewart, subquarter in J!H7, and Stubby Gary of the frosh squad are other promising candidates for the pilot position. posi-tion. Both are speedy on their feet and quick thinkers. Some former Granite stars are Stevenson, Steven-son, Jenson and Simmons. St evenson has showed much class at the end position, posi-tion, while Jenson and Simmons have worked behind the line as well as on end. Silver, Nowclls, Gilmer and Ottitiger are East high men who will fight for a place on the line. Gilmer and Ottingor ;.re tackles, No-wells a guard and Silver a center. All four of these men were on the East high team that won the state football championship in 1917.7 Swan, Reeves, Ballard, Johnson, 'u!p, Woodbury, Win?, Harris, Wright. Most of the men are in tiptop shape after working during the summer months.
