Show HELENASCENE OF IIMKTIffl Good Ore Struck Close to City; Full Crews Speed Development at Mines. Mining In and around Helena has taken a sudden impetus, and, according to experts, ex-perts, some btg things may be looked for soon in the district surrounding the capital city. Some good ore has been uncovered very close to the city and work is now being pushed with full crews in several of the properties. Several Sev-eral parties of eastern capitalists have recently been looking over the ground and have been favorably impressed with the showings. "While little- has been said, the owners have been diligently pushing the development work and before snow files next winter many new producers, no doubt, will be shipping steadily. The Economy and Montana-Chicago properties, operated by the Kosenfleld brothers, are now working large crews of men and the big up-to-date 200-ton mill is now, ready for use. As soon as the motors are Installed, the plant will be ready for operation. These mines are located about fourteen miles northeast of Helena and the properties consist of several hundred acres of valuable mineral min-eral land. The development work carried car-ried on up to the present time has disclosed dis-closed Beveral strong, wide leads, carrying carry-ing high values in gold, silver and copper. cop-per. The Rosenfleld boys are well known Montana mining men and their confidence confi-dence in the Helena district is attested by the operations they are now carrying on In the Mitchell gulch territory. A power line has been completed to the Economy and Montana-Chicago mines and mill and those who have been through the plunt pronounce it one of the most modern in the country. The mill has been constructed on the unit plan, so that the capacity can be increased at any time, and also arranged so that a flotation section could be easily installed. in-stalled. The Helena mine is now being worked by the Cruse Consolidated company ana some high grade steel galena ore has been opened up. The shaft Is now being sunk from the 400 to 500 foot level and when this Is completed, stoping will commence. com-mence. Up to a year ago, the mine was operated by the Helena Mining bureau, and some excellent results obtained. The property is located In the Grass Valley district, 5 miles west of Helena. James Cruse is president and the ores carry values aggregating $158 per ton, running 30 per cent lead, and other metals, which bring the values up greatly. There are over twenty claims here and the holdings and stock are held heavily by interests in Waterbury, Connecticut. The Bluebird Copper-Silver Mining company is doing extensive development work on Its group of cialms in the foothills foot-hills of the Scratch Gravel mining district, dis-trict, five miles northwest of Helena. Joseph H. King is president and manager man-ager of the company and the work is being done under the direction of Superintendent Su-perintendent E. R. Purnell, a well-known geologist and mining engineer. There aro six claims. Ore has been taken out of an incline shaft, scaling the' regular dip of the vein, making a verticle depth of 45 feet, carrying 40 per cent copper, silver and gold, bringing the values up to $155 per ton. New shaft sinking has been started under the direction of Mr. Purnell, below the old workings, where he encountered the manganese cutting through the entire width of the shaft. This had a tendency to eat the life out of the granite in the veins, and up to the present time the drilling has been done by driving sharp-pointed steel into the manganese eaten granite. A gallows frame has been framed and ready to set, as soon as the gasoline equipment for hoisting arrives on the ground. A scientific method of mining and prospecting has been outlined , by Mr. Purnell and the work will be pushed until shipping ore has been encountered, which experts declare will be soon. The present shaft wilt be sunk to a depth of 150 feet, after which a station will be cut and sinking and drifting carried on simultaneously from this point. These ore only a few of the mines now being opened near Helena and a great future is predicted for the district. |
