Show Mail Route Up Snake River, Ida., Will Make Attractive Scenery Accessible. Special to The Tribune. POCATELLO, Idaho, Sept. 6. The opening of one of Idaho's wonderlands is provided for in the opening of a mail route for a distance of ninety miles up the Snake river at Lewiston, along the navigable portions of the stream, into a country heretofore isolated from civilization, civ-ilization, and said to rival tho Grand convon for its beauty. A dispatch from Lewiston gives the following interesting description of the region to be opened up through the awarding of a mail contract by the government: A telegram from Congressman Burton Bur-ton L. Erench states the contract for the new Snake river mail route has been awarded to Brewink of Lewiston. The service will be started September 10. The route extends ninety miles up the Snake river from Lewiston, above Grand Konde, to Pittsburg Landing. It opens a territory of great resources and remarkable scenery, which will attract a great number of tourists. There have been frequent inquiries here, leading periodicals askine if it is possible for their feature writers to get into the country, which, it is stated, rivals the Grand canyon for beauty. A boat is to be built by Brewink, with the aid of stockmen of that district, dis-trict, and will be a sixty-five-foot craft, with 2:!0-horsepower --"Mne. The boat will be capable of carrying ten tons, and will represent an expenditure of $10.-000. $10.-000. It will carry passengers as well as freight and mail, and will take two days to make the trip up. Brewink says it is "a thrill every minute." The return re-turn trip can be made in four or five hours. It is estimated there are 50.000 sheep ir that section. Great difficulty has been exnerienced in getting the clip down. Several large shearings are waiting there now for a chance of shipment. ship-ment. Four hundred people will be benefited by the mail service, according accord-ing to the census, which shows that number between Asotin and Pittsburg Landing.
