Show j THE FIRST DIVISION. f Tlv First division, regular army, will J be welcomed homo next week. The j, various organizations making up this I1 great fighting division have already ar-I ar-I rived, and General Pershing, who will ! lead the parade, will reach Xew York ' bright and early Monday morning. Tho First division helped make history while overseas, and tho men belonging to the various regiments will always be proud of tho fact that they followed the old flag in such gallant company. Next to the Second division, the Firat suffered the heaviest losses during the war in killed, wounded and missing, and the difference between the two fighting organizations or-ganizations was not very great. It was feared for a timo that the regulars would be forgotten, while all the glory i attaching to the American expedition-, expedition-, ary forces went to the National Guard and National Army divisions. Such fears have been allayed and the credit has been very generally distributed j among what are known as the com- bat divisions, about thirty in number. The First division to go over was the ; last to come back, and by this sign we know that it ia all over "over there," at least for some timo to come. Utah was represented in the First, as well as many of the other divisions seeing service at the front, and a warm welcome is awaiting the boys when they reach tho home state. A history of the First division will be found in another section of this paper. |
