Show Southern Utahns honored recently for their contributions to adult education by the Adult Education Association of Utah are (left to right) Lynn Esplin accepting award for Grant Esplin, Daphne Dalley , Macksene Jensen and Mel Osborne. They were honored recently at a public reception at SUSC. Utahns honored for service energy workshops are bul a few of the programs she has arranged. The third award was made to Daphne Dalley, coordinator of conferences and workshops at SUSC. Mrs. Dalley takes care of contact work, physical arrangements, program organization and public relations prior to on-campus on-campus programs, then acts as a hostess to visiting groups when they arrive on campus. Utah Girls State, MX. public hearings, mining pre-employment pre-employment training, investment seminars, Title XX workshops, professional development seminars and solar CEDAR CITY - The four southern Utahns honored for outstanding service to adult education recently at Southern Utah State College have several things in common, among them dedication and enthusiasm for programs involving adult learning and continuing education. Melvyn.i Osborn, Macksene Jensen, Grant Esplin and Daphne Dalley were honored by the Adult Education Association of Utah at a public reception at SUSC. Bill Farnsworth, AEAU President, was in charge of presentations. Plaques were awarded the four "in recognition of the meritorious contribution made in the area of adult and continuing education in the state of Utah." Osborn has served as the cummunity school director and instructor of edult education for six years at Beaver High School. A 1969 graduate of SUSC, he taught at Dugway High School, Tooele School District, for several years before accepting a teaching position in his hometown in 1975. English, journalism and speech are Osborn's main teaching subjects at BHS. In addition to his responsibilities as community school director, he is the tutor-counselor tutor-counselor for the Upward Bound Programr "Even though Mr. ' Osborn's assignments . have been wide in scope and lengthy in daily commitment, his service has always been superior," his citation read. Jensen is a teacher for the Iron Country School District Adult Education Program. She has served in that capacity since 1977, a job requiring that she "teach, mother, counsel and redress as is appropriate." Prior to acquiring the position in I Cedar City, she worked five years in the adult education program in Elko, Nev., and taught at Elko Community College. "Mrs. Jensen is a rare tough-tender-type teacher who can successfully teach art adult to read for the first" time in his life or teach another eager student advanced algebra and physiology," her citation read. |
