Show Bo ard approves expenditures CEDAR CITY The Iron County School Board discussed expenditures of $5,840,000 on its 1981 bonding fund budget at their last meeting. Morris. The estimated cost of the machines is $20,000. Another item that the Board will purchase sometime in the near future is a new curtain for the Cedar High School auditorium. According to Morris, the present one is old, faded and full of holes. The cost of the new certain is an approximately $8,000. To bring Cedar High up to existing fire codes, the Board will also have to iastall new doors in the building. The Board plans on purchasing 20 doors, which will cost an estimated $20,000. The Board has also decided to allocate $15,000 to Yack Construction Company due to unseen problems arising in the remodeling of old junior high building. Apparently when the construction crew took out the floor, they unexpectantly ran into an additional layer of concrete that had to be dynamited out, according to Martin Yack. Yack also ran into problems trying to find a contractor that would do stucco work. "I guess people just aren't hungry enough to want the job," said Yack. According to Morris, adding the additional $15,000 on to Yack's bid, did not make it higher than those who previously bid for the project. Much of this money has been spent, with the Board placing projects in the order of preference for the spending of the rest. According to Superintendent Clair Morris, even though the existing budget has been approved, this does not necessarily mean that the Board will go out and immediately purchase all the items listed. "I tried to think about everything we needed for this year and the next too," said Morris. One item that the Board motioned to begin work on immediately was hiring an architect to draw up plans to deviate Cedar High School's dead-end corridor which does not presently meet State fire codes. The Board plans on overcoming this problem by covering Cedar High's patio, thus creating two class rooms in the process and connecting a hallway into the existing hallway, making it possible for students to exit in case of a fire emergency, according to Morris. The Board also approved adding smoke detectors and installing a stairwell to the building. The estimated cost is $170,000, said Morris. The School Board also felt that it was important to purchase video tape recorders for ten schools and the district office. "We're behind the rest of the world as far as video tape machines go," said |
