Show CHS matmen beat 7 teams SPANISH FORK The Cedar City High School wrestling team came out victorious in an eight-team eight-team tournament conducted at Spanish Fork High School last Saturday. The Redmen took ten wrestlers on the trip and eight of them came back with medals to rack up 124 team-points and win the team trophy. Payson followed with 116 points and American Fork had 115. The other teams in order were Spanish Fork, 106 lk Carbon, 98; Springville, 88; Lehi, 65 and Provo, 51. Virgil Johnson, coach of the team, indicated that this was a tough tournament and the boys did very well. Bringing home first-place first-place medals were Danny Bulloch (185) and Greg Robinson (112). Shreve Damon (126) and Greg Bulloch (145) took second in their divisions and Coy Bryant (98) and Kendall Bryant (119) took third. Fourth-place finishes were won by Gaylen Matheson (132) and John Stokes (138). Earlier in the week the squad had traveled to Viewmont where they gained more experience than wins but, according to Coach Johnson, "It got them tough for the tournament." Varsity wrestlers getting wins at Viewmont were Coy Bryant (98), Gaylen Matheson (132), Danny Bulloch (185) and Danny Beacham (Heavyweight). Junior Varsity winners were John Stokes (126), Greg Bulloch (145), Scott Browning (155) and Kim Weaver (167). Today the wrestlers are in Payson for what should be another tough match, according to Johnson. Assisting Johnson with the coaching this year at CHS is Garth Bryant.
