Show Battle comes to an end Commissioners approve' 82 budget fund, revenue and expenditures balancing at $48,000. Also at the meeting, several different insurance companys presented to the Commissioners a proposed estimate for an insurance program for County employees. At present, only about one third of the County employees are participating in the current insurance program offered by the County. "Of. those 63, about 22 or 23 are on a family coverage plan," said Denis Lowder County auditor. The Commissioners didn't take any action on the insurance question, but plan to look further at the problem in the future. Also, the Board of Administratibn Control was established for the Summit improvement district by the Commissioners and the members and their terms in office were set. The Board will consist of Alma Lawrence, chairman; Cornell Hollinger; Roxanna Johnson; recorder; Darryl Davenport; and David Dalley. The Board will serve four-year terms with Dalley and Davenport serving two-year two-year terms. In other business Valeria Bryant from the Parowan Clinic, indicated to the Commissioners that there was i smoking problem in the County Courthouse. She was expecially concerned because the smoke rises through the building to the clinic, bothering patients; and there are ash trays in the building "encouraging people to smoke." The Commissioners decided to have the ash trays removed, and have no smoking signs put up. PAROWAN - The battle of the budget finally came to a close as the Iron County Commissioners approved the Ccunty budget for 1982. All the trimming and cutting came under final scrutiny during the final budget hearing Monday afternoon. Several County employees were in attendence to make sure the Commissioners didn't trim their departments' budget any more. Iron County Attorney James L. Shumate, in defending the Deputy County Attorney position, reported to the Commissioners the activities that Shumate's office handled in the past year. The felony cases and the misdemeanors in the County have significantly increased in the past year, as much as 30 percent in some instances, according to Shumate. "The Deputy attorney, J. Phillip Eves, has had 100 percent success winning his misdemeanor cases during the past year," stated Shumate. The reason Shumate gave for keeping the deputy is that, "our increase in work load and a decrease in the manpower, will back up the court systems even more." However, he decided to leave the monev situatuon in the hands of the Commissioners, and they left the funds for the deputy off the budget. The approved 1982 operating budget consists of- General fund, revenue and expenditures balancing at $2,448,290. County library fund, revenue and expenditures balancing at $76,500. Collector road construction and maintanance, revenue and expenditures balancing at $325,000. Debt service fund, revenue and expenditures balancing at $157,301. Transient room tax |
