Show KGSUto air Rigoletto Rigoletto, his self-sacrificing self-sacrificing daughter Gilda, the licentious Duke, the hired assassin Sparafucile in the decadent setting of 16th century Mantua, come to life through the drama and passion his music creates. Verdi was so certain of the instant success of the Duke's aria "La Donna e mobile" he did not want it sung in rehearsals for fear it would be sung all ovr Italy before the opera's premiere. CEDAR CITY -"Rigoletto," the third broadcast in this season's Texaco-Metropolitan Opera Radio series, will be heard Saturday over KGSU-FM, the Southern Utah State College radio station. The broadcast will begin at noon, live from the Metropolitan Opera. Christiane Eda-Pierre will sing Gilda, with Louis Quilico as Rigoletto and Luciano Pavarotti as the Duke. Isola Jones will be heard as Maddalena and Ara Berberian as Sparafucile. During the first intermission, Boris Goldovsky will discuss the musical and drama aspects of "Rigoletto." Texaco's "Opera Quiz" will be heard during the second intermission with Edward Downes as quizmaster. "Rigoletto" is one of the most frequently performed of Verdi's works.
